MSI K7T266Pro2-RU (VIA KT266A chipset) Motherboard Once again, MSI is one of the first companies to market with a new board based on the VIA KT266A chipset. A wealth of features including USB 2.0, relocation of the diagnostic D-LED to the outside of the case and a pretty red PCB are the strong aspects of the K7T266Pro2-RU. Different models within the series with varying features from Promise FastTrack "Lite" over the already mentioned USB 2.0 allow the user to chose the version most appropriate for his or her needs. The K7T266Pro2-RU however, has some serious downsides, too. While in some synthetic benchmark applications, the performance is overall adequate, the K7T266Pro2-RU falls way behind when it comes to real life applications. Additional issues concerned poor overclocking potential and erratic behavior after driver installation. Some of the issues we found may be BIOS related, some others can be addressed in hardware revisions without problems. In its current form, it appears as if the K7T266Pro2 with its various iterations is more geared towards the OEM channel than towards the enthusiast.

Soon, Intel won't be the only company with a Rambus chipset for Pentium 4 PCs.
Sources said Tuesday that Taiwan's Silicon Integrated Systems will come out with a chipset that allows PC makers to connect Pentium 4 processors with Rambus-based memory.

Celeron z Pentia 4 opravdu bude
Předevčírem, na schůzce s analytiky, Intel oficálně potvrdil, že hodlá příští rok uvést Celeron postavený na jádře Pentia 4. Stane se tak v polovině roku (velmi pravděpodobně v třetím kvartále) a startovat bude na 1.8 GHz s externí sběrnicí 400 MHz. Mimo potvrzení informací, o kterých jsme už psali (chipsety, P3 a P4 s Celerony a změny plánů), Intel ještě uvedl, že hodlá uvést 3 GHz variantu P4 někdy v průběhu příštího roku. Navíc také v prvním kvartále 2002 se můžeme těšit na mobilní P4 a nové Xeony.
