Transcend P4 Motherboards in Live Demo at COMDEX Fall 2001
Taipei, Taiwan, November 8, 2001/Various Agencies—Transcend Information, Inc. (Transcend) will provide a Live Demo of our two hottest Pentium 4 Socket 478 motherboards at COMDEX Fall 2001 in Las Vegas. Performing for the estimated 200,000 attendees will be Transcend’s TS-ABD4 and TS-ABR4 motherboards, both built around the Intel 845 chipset. The TS-ABD4 uses SDRAM memory modules, while the TS-ABR4 has been designed to use DDR DRAM memory modules. Both motherboards are highly expandable and come loaded with a variety of standard features. In addition, the TS-ABR4 can be ordered with optional onboard LAN and onboard Promise IDE RAID.

Intel to release 533MHz FSB early

Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the past few months, you've no doubt heard some of the buzz about VIA's latest socket A DDR core logic chipset, the KT266A. The original version, known as KT266 was launched to great applause, but as other vendors began to add support for DDR it quickly became apparent that the KT266 was not quite as hot as was first believed. VIA are becoming well known for their ability to react quickly, and that's exactly what they did. Not wanting to play second fiddle to anybody else, they took their KT266 back to the drawing board and searched for a way to to pump out a bit more performance, and the KT266A was born.

DDR SDRAM shoot out: Crucial PC2100 vs. OCZ Performance PC2400
The new naming system for SDRAM is no longer based on the number of clock cycles, indeed if this was the case I would be reviewing PC133/PC150 memory. Contrary to apparently popular belief, DDR RAM is no different in design to SDR SDRAM. The differences being data is transferred on both the rising and falling sides of the clock cycle, a different sized DIMM slot is used, and the chipset needs to support DDR. This does not mean you can put 184 pin DDR modules into 168 pin SDR DIMM slots or vice versa though.

SIS has finally started to make great-performance chipsets, ALi is always there or thereabouts, VIA is surprising us as usual with their 'A' revisions and some company called Nvidia has started to mess in this business as well. Interesting things will happen in next couple of months when ATi tips up with its P4 solution. It’s hotting up.

Shuttle AK31 Rev. 3.1 Motherboard
I still remember buying my first Shuttle board. I cannot recall the model but it was one of the few boards with an AMD chipset on it. This is before the days of the Athlon, or K6-2 for that matter. It took up to a K6 233MHz which is what I installed in it. It was a great board for its day and I never had any major problems with it. While it was pretty "no frills", it got the job done. Well, the days of the K6 are over and we now have a new breed of mainboards on the market. The Athlon XP Is a Hit -- and Its Model Numbers Aren't Hurting This week's release of the Athlon XP 1900+ is an important one for AMD. Primarily, it takes back the performance crown AMD lost to Intel's 2.0GHz Pentium 4: Although the XP 1800+ tied or narrowly edged the P4's benchmark scores, AMD needed a clear victory and got it with the 1900+ chip.

Kolik "topí" procesory Problematikou vyzařování tepla dnešními procesory jsme se již zabývali několikrát - jednalo se samozřejmě o to, jak toto "odpadní" teplo co nejlépe z procesoru "odčerpat". Na serveru The Guru of 3D se objevila tabulka elektrické spotřeby jednotlivých typů dnešních CPU - pokud si ji prohlédnete (viz. dále) zjistíte, že některé procesory jsou na kvalitní chladící systém právem náročné - téměř lze o nich říci, že se vzdalují kategorii "elektronika" a pomalu se přesouvají do oddělení "topná tělěsa" :-)

Intel a DDR paměti: Láska na druhý pohled
Láska na celý život je moc krásná věc. V běžném životě to však již tak moc časté není a už vůbec ne, když jde o byznys. Intel se bláznivě "zamiloval" do RAMBUSu, dokonce si ho i "vzal". Nyní to již, ale po několika letech manželství hodně skřípe. Intel si proto našel dlouho odvrhovanou lásku - DDR SD RAM paměti. Vypadá to, že z toho bude láska jako trám.

QDI KuDoZ 7-A přináší víc než jen zvláštní název
Do testu se nám dostala deska s poněkud exotickým názvem KuDoZ 7-A. Během jejího testování jsme také navíc porovnali ovladače Detonator 12.41 a 21.81 a výsledky jsou více než překvapivé.
