MSI K7N420 Pro Motherboard
As we've mentioned already, MSI have always been first to implement new technologies into their products before anyone else. Take a look at their other releases ... MSI K7T266 Pro2. Although there are some good and bad points to this, MSI seem to have a big advantage by offering unlimited support via new BIOS and driver updates. I remember reviewing the MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU, it had an unfortunate BIOS limitation in which only allowed overclocking via multiplier ... FSB overclcoking was unavailable. On the same weekend MSI later released a new and updated BIOS that solved the problem. Brilliant ... quick, decisive and solved. :)

Abit BL7 RAID Motherboard Pentium 4 gained a lot from the market attention lately. As we were able to find out from the Intel Round table held here in Romania Pentium III is no longer manufactured and the actual Celeron will be discontinued early next year. It's not a surprise that Intel doesn't manufacture Pentium III any more, but we found quite interesting that they will renounce to the IA32 traditional architecture Celeron so soon. Of course that there will be a new Celeron, but it will be based on a Pentium 4 core. We were not able to find out if it will be socket compatible with the 478 Pentium 4.

Intel tempts chipmakers with motherboard
Intel's Hannacroix, on display at the Comdex Fall 2001 trade show this week, is a next-generation motherboard--the slab of circuitry that houses all a computer's main components. It's a vehicle to demonstrate many technologies Intel hopes to see in future PCs, including the faster version 2 of Universal Serial Bus (USB) connections, Serial ATA connections to hard drives, six-speaker audio, and 802.11b and Bluetooth wireless networking.

Abit KG7-RAID Motherboard
Introduced over a year ago, the AMD 760 chipset was the first to offer full DDR support for the AMD Athlon. It wasn't intended to be around for the long haul, but with other third party chipsets fumbling the ball, AMD has chosen to continue supplying it's robust Athlon Socket-A chipset to manufacturers. Abit was a little late adopting an Athlon DDR solution, but despite that, it's one of the more viable solutions on the market.

ASUS A7V266-E (VIA KT266A chipset) Motherboard
After more or less skipping the VIA KT266 chipset, ASUS releases its view of what a KT266A chipset-based mainboard is supposed to look like. Loaded with features like support for the iPanel, SmartCard reader and onboard CMedia 6-channel sound including SPDIF support, the A7V266-E is bound for success. Using new power-supply technology supplied by ON-Semiconductor with the MOSFET drivers integrated in the core controller, ASUS does away with 2 phases, yet manages to achieve a superlative in stability, particularly under overclocked conditions. In some applications, the A7V266-E does not quite reach the performance of competing boards, other applications see the board outperforming the competition. Some issues remain with the board in terms of what appears to be redundant jumpers and some BIOS explanations could use some polishing as well to fit the actual settings. Some other issues concern the hardware monitor interfacing, particularly core voltage and temperature monitoring. Despite these shortcomings, the A7V266-E is probably the way to go for a high-end platform for the Athlon Palomino. www.lostcircuits.com

První benchmark chipsetu i845-D!
O intelovém chipsetu i845-D (aneb i845 B-stepping) jsme vás informovali už několikrát, například v polovině září. Jistě vás také bude zajímat, jak si tento chipset vede v porovnání třeba s VIA P4X266 nebo SiS 645. Nyní vám nabízíme výsledky prvních testů společně s informacemi, kdy můžeme čekat první základní desky.
SiS bude vyrábět chipset s podporou RDRAMů
Ano, je to tak, SiS rozšířil licenční dohodu mezi ním a Rambusem tak, aby mohl uvést chipset s podporou RDRAM pamětí. Potvrdil to i Senior Vice President této společnosti. Poté, co VIA jasně řekla, že s Rambusy nechce mít nic společného, zkouší SiS štěstí na tomto poli. Uvidíme, co mu to přinese.
Update: Ještě se mi podařilo zjistit, že SiS hodlá využívat takzvané 4i RDRAMy. Ty jsou jen čtyřbankové, narozdíl od dnešních 32-bankových. A jakou mají 4i RDRAMy výhodu? Cenu. Jsou totiž stejně rychlé jako ty současné RDRAMy, ale levnější. Dokonce by měly být tak levné, že budou schopny konkurovat DDR SDRAMům.

nForce A7N266 - The first blood
Ještě nevyschla "tiskařská barva" na včerejším diplomu základní desky s vylepšeným čipsetem KT266A, který před nedávnem zavládl světu procesorů Athlon XP, a již zde máme dalšího borce který přelézá provazy ringu - "že nového šampióna zlikviduje" (vykřikuje slovo "crush" tj. rozdrtit). Na tričku má nápis "nForce 420D" a do ringu si sebou překvapivě bere i svoji... manželku - ta prý bude bojovat, když to nebude "tak hustý".
