ABIT BL7-RAID Motherboard
The BL7-RAID is Abit current Socket 478 value board. The BL7-RAID has the Intel i845 chip and uses regular old SDRAM, which is much cheaper than RDRAM but doesn't offer nearly the performance of RDRAM. With i845 boards being priced pretty reasonable, and SDRAM being priced dirt cheap it is getting easy to build a relatively inexpensive P4 system, unfortunately the P4's themselves are still a little pricey when compared to their AMD counterparts.

More than a year has passed after the first Pentium 4 processor entered the market, but yet no chipset manufacturer has launched any integrated solution for this platform. The standstill is to broken in the first half of 2002 – we are in for a real boom of integrated Pentium 4 chipsets. Good many manufacturers have such chipsets on their roadmaps. These are SiS with SiS650 (SiS 315 graphics core), VIA with P4M266 (Savage 4 core) and P4M333 (Zoetrope core), ALi working on CyderAladdin-P4 with CyberBlade3D graphics from Trident, ATI developing A4 with Radeon 7500 core, and possibly NVIDIA.

Since VIA KT 266 and KT-266A are pin-to-pin compatible chipsets most manufacturers didn't have to change the design of their VIA KT-266 motherboards - they just built in the new and enhanced version of the chipset. The same goes for Chaintech 7VJDA model. Visually, the motherboard is identical to CT-7VJD model and the only difference between the new and the old model is the easily noticeable VIA KT-266A chipset mark.

VIA still not shipping own-brand boards yet
Distributor Xander International, an affiliate of VIA Technologies, said that P4X266 boards adopted for its newly launched own-brand PCs actually came from Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), not VPSD (VIA Platform Solutions Division). The company added that it is likely to enhance its cooperation with VIA by selling motherboards from VPSD.
