Lately, not a day goes by without a reader inquiring about what motherboard we'd buy if we planned on building an Athlon system. This is a seemingly straightforward question, but the Athlon motherboard market has seen such a large influx of great products since the introductions of VIA's KT266A, that it is almost impossible to recommend one board over another without asking a slew of qualifying questions. Will you be overclocking? Do you want RAID? What type of on-board features, if any, are you looking for? Are you a gamer? Without the answers to these questions (and many more), helping a reader decide on a product is very difficult.

ASUS A7V266-EA Motherboard
In the latest step of the evolutionary cycle, ASUS have released their incarnation in VIA's latest AMD based DDR chipset chipset the Apollo Pro KT266A. This chipset is basically an optimized version of the KT266, with speed and timing improvements which should in the end result in improved performance. This board is a replacement for the earlier A7V266 to which it looks identical - and identical for a reason, with the only change being the swapping of the chipset.

ABIT KR7A Motherboard
Abit has had a long reputation as being the premeir mainboard manufacturer for the overclocking enthusiast, mainly due to their extremely easy to use and navigate Softmenu Bios. Other manufacturers have recently started going to a jumperless design but none still seem to have the touch that Abit has. Epox has come on strong with some extremely impressive motherboards that directly compete with the Abit boards for top performers. Although abit was yet again late to the dance floor with their latest creation, that uses the VIA KT266A chipset, they stand to take the crown back from epox. Will it be able to do it, we shall see! I will take a look at the KR7A non raid and compare it to the Epox 8KHA+ to see who will retain the overclocking and performance crown!

i845G bude v květnu 2002
V prvních plánech ohledně i845G, i845 chipsetu s integrovanou grafickou kartou, jsme mohli nalézt plánované uvedení v třetím kvartále příštího roku. Jenže vzhledem k situaci na trhu chipsetů se ho Intel rozhodl uspíšit a tak v době psaní článku "i845G pod drobnohledem" se zdálo, že v prodeji bude už na začátku dubna. V současné době to nakonec vypadá, že se prodej spozdí oproti tomuto termínu o měsíc, do května 2002.
Konkurenční tlak ještě donutil Intel, aby rozeslal výrobcům základních desek vzorky tohoto chipsetu už minulý měsíc. Jsem upřímně zvědav, kdy prosáknou první testy na Internet.
