Dont you think that it would've been perfect if Intel built support for DDR-333 in their new 845E chipset? Foxconn jako výrobce základních desek
Společnost Foxconn Electronics je známá jako výrobce patic (kupříkladu Socket 478) a různých konektorů, které naleznete na základních deskách. Nyní se pouští i do výroby samotných základních desek a to prostřednictvím společnosti First Tech, kterou ze 70% vlastní. První model by měl být postaven na platformě Intel 845 a měl by být k dispozici během měsíce. Základní desky budou prodávány pod značkou Hoxtek.

VIA chipset K8HTB pro Hammery
V únoru jsem vás informoval o tom, že VIA plánuje chipset i pro Hammer procesory. Znali jsme jen jméno: K8HTB. Nyní se na X-bit Laboratories objevily i nějaké ty specifikace: AGP 8× a V-Link 8×. Díky V-Linku by chipset měl být kompatibilní se South Bridge od VIA, takže bychom v tu dobu mohli potkat USB 2.0 a SerialATA. A mimo tohoto chipsetu VIA prý plánuje ještě jeden s integrovanou grafickou kartou. Bližší detaily tohoto nejsou známy.

Intel původně chtěl vydat i850E ve stejnou dobu jako i845E, i845G a i845GL. Jenže nyní vydal i850E o několik týdnů dříve. Proč to? To nikdo neví. A ještě kurióznější je situace, kdy na trhu nejsou žádné RDRAMy PC1066, které jsou zapotřebí pro Pentia 4 s 533 MHz sběrnicí. První se mají začít objevovat až v polovině příštího měsíce (od Elpidy a Kingstonu). Takže si sice můžete pořídit drahou základní desku s i850E chipsetem a drahým Pentiem 4 s 533 MHz sběrnicí, ale již si k tomu nepořídíte také řádně drahé RDRAMy. Jediné řešení spočívá v přetaktování již existujících pamětí a takto to zatím řeší i ASUS. Tomu však z testů vyšel pouze jeden vhodný kandidát: paměti od Samsungu.

Ceny: základní desky pro platformu AMD zlevňují rychleji než motherboardy pro Intel
Základní desky pro nové procesory a rychlejší paměti si pomalu ale jistě razí cestu na slunce. Starší modely musí zákonitě s cenou dolů. Pokles sice není tak razantní jako před šesti týdny, ale i dnes jsme našli produkty s více než zajímavými cenami.
