Asus A7V333 Motherboard Review
The motherboard market is a huge segment of the PC Hardware industry, with a wide selection of companies offering products - probably second only in number to video card manufacturers. Similarly to the video card market, the actual chipsets that power the products are made by only 2 or 3 companies, with lots of smaller companies producing boards around those chipsets. DFI NB73-EA (Intel 845E) Motherboard Review

The ABIT "Legacy Free" AT7 & IT7 MAX Motherboards
Over the years, we haven't seen too many "standards" completely tossed aside. For example, analysts have been saying for some time that the "end was near" for the good old floppy drive, but most of us still have one in our system. GigaByte 8IEXP Motherboard
Intel has done well with their i845E chipset, though this is not because the chipset is more superior to the competition or that it’s a better value chipset. In fact, the i845E has none of these traits, just like the i845D, the i845E is most likely one of the slower P4 DDR chipsets currently available. There is no denying that VIA’s P4X333 or SiS’s 645DX chipsets own the i845E on a performance/value level, so why has the i845E been more successful? It can really only be put down to availability.

The last time we looked at the K7D Master, AMD still had not finished fixing the USB problem with the AMD 768 Southbridge. Nevertheless, the K7D Master did well, and they included a USB 2.0 card to get around the broken USB problem. The latest revision has a few changes, the most obvious being that it is in MSI's traditional red PCB color. USB 2.0 is still included, but the onboard USB is working properly.

Soyo's KT333 Dragon Ultra motherboard

Intel plans to boost demand with more Socket 478 Celerons and later DDR333 chipsets
Industry sources revealed that seeing the weak sales in the OEM market, Intel started to consider postponing the launch of its DDR333-supporting 845PE and 845GE chipsets and increasing its shipments of Socket 478-based Celeron processors to the clone markets. With the later launch schedule, Intel would hope to prolong the product life cycle of its 845G and 845E chipsets, sources said. At present, the inventory level of the two products at many OEM companies remains rather high.

MSI 845E MAX2-BLR Motherboard
It was only natural for most manufacturers to update their Intel 845 DDR motherboards once Intel themselves announced a move from a 400 to a 533 MHz FSB for their Pentium4 line of processors. AMD bude vyrábět základní desky?
Podle zvěstí, které se šíří Taiwanem, se chystá výrobce procesorů AMD ke spuštění výroby základních desek. Společnost si tak zajistí, že při vypuštění nových procesorů bude existovat motherboard s jejich podporou a že také budou základní desky z její výroby podporovat kompletně a správně všechny vlastnosti nových procesorů. První modely z dílen AMD se objeví pravděpodobně s vypuštěním Hammeru. A nakonec, když už své mainboardy vyrábí VIA a Intel, tak proč ne? :-)

Poptávka po základních deskách v červenci roste
Ještě v pondělí vás Martin oblažil negativními informacemi ohledně příjmů firem, které tvoří chipsety pro základní desky. Dnes tu máme naopak pozitivní informace. Výrobci základních desek totiž hlásí, že se jim v prvním týdnu oproti prvnímu týdnu minulého měsíce dosti zvedl prodej mainboardů. Ohlásil to ASUSTeK, ECS přidal, že šlo o 10 %. Druhý týden (tedy vlastně tento) očekávají, že prodej zůstane na úrovni minulého týdne. To GigaByte Technology očekává nárůst v tomto týdnu o 30 % a to především díky větší poptávce v Číně.

Intel povolil Aceru a ASUSu hrátky s AMD
Zní vám to divně? Jak by mohl Intel povolovat, co smí a nesmí Acer a ASUSTeK dělat s jinými firmami? Ono to není tak složité. Intel je v dosti výjimečném postavení a tak si může diktovat. Dělal to dříve, dělá to i nyní. Naštěstí díky více narůstající konkurenci ze strany AMD musí svůj diktát zmírňovat. Dříve kupříkladu zcela nekompromisně zakazoval prodávat výrobcům základní desky s VIA chipsety (no, možná to platí stále).

Čipové sady 845PE a 845GE (od svých předchůdců se liší pouze oficiální podporou paměťové technologie DDR333) od společnosti Intel budou dostupné až v říjnu. Původně se tyto čipové sady měly objevit již v září. Oficiální vysvětlení se odkazuje na „technické problémy“. Neoficiálně se na internetu spekuluje o snaze dosloužit životní cyklus současných čipových sad Intel 845E/G.

První dva motherboardy s Bluetooth
Ano, jde opravdu zatím jen o dva boardy, které tuto bezdrátovou technologii podporují. První informaci o Bluetooth jsme přinesli již v říjnu loňského roku. To šlo o Bluetooth adaptér, který se připojuje do USB 1.1 od 3Com. A cože to vlastně je? Něco podobného, co znají majitelé notebooků s infra portem. Zkrátka bezdrátové připojení periferií. Jen na sebe vysílač a přijímač nemusí vidět. Do května se daly použít jen takovéto adaptéry. Nyní tu tedy již máme první dvě základní desky, které tuto technologii podporují. A které to jsou?

Low-end ASUS = ASROCK
ASUSTeK konečně prozradil, pod jakou značkou začne produkovat levné desky. Její název zní "ASROCK". Jako první budou tuto značku moci okusit číňané - již na konci července. V srpnu bude následovat Indie, Střední a Jižní Amerika. Kdy se dočkáme i v Evropě a v Americe, to zatím není jasné.

SerialATA na základních deskách
Na DigiTimes vyšel takový shrnující článek, který povídá o tom, kdy na základních deskách potkáme SerialATA řadiče. Jak už od nás můžete vědět, již tento měsíc mají přijít na trh první základní desky se SerialATA řadiči. S tím souhlasí i na DigiTimes a dodávají, že takový řadič prodraží cenu mainboardu o cca 7 dolarů. Důvod je velmi jednoduchý: SerialATA zatím nejsou implementovány v chipsetech a tak výrobci musí koupit extra řadič.

VIA i SiS hlásí rekordní pokles prodeje
VIA měla v červnu nejmenší prodej za posledních 28 měsíců, SiS je na tom podobně, ta oznámila nejnižší prodej v tomto roce. Obě firmy věří, že již červenec bude lepší, a že do konce roku naplní očekávané obraty. Pokles přičítají také nižšímu kurzu dolaru. U VIA je to ještě jedna okolnost. V květnu se zcela oddělila její divize pro optická média (VIA Optical Solution). Její podíl na prodeji tak chybí.

Elpida už také má 512 Mb DDR-II chipy
Více jak před měsícem jsem informoval, že Samsungu se už podařilo vyrobit DDR-II chipy, které mají kapacitu 512 Mb. Nyní s podobným prohlášením přišla i paměťová firma Elpida. A nejenom to, ona už začíná s prodejem vzorků - jeden kus vyjde po přepočtu na 7500 korun. Tyto vzorky jsou vyráběny 0,13 mikrony a jsou napájeny 1,8 V. Přestože běží rychleji - na 533 Mb/s, spotřeba elektrické energie je oproti DDR-I pamětem zhruba 70 %.
